Police reported they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior political figure stated the attack made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
